Dr Margie Borschke

Journalism at Macquarie University

Dr Margie Borschke is a Senior Lecturer in Journalism and Media in the Department of Media, Music, Communication and Cultural Studies at Macquarie University. She conducts research on media use, social media, network culture and media history. She teaches courses on journalism in Macquarie’s  Master of Future Journalism degree, as well as undergraduate units in media studies.

As a part of the ‘The (re)Generation’ Project, Dr Borschke is studying how media shapes attitudes about nature, wilderness and the environment. In particular, she is interested in how photographs such as Peter Dombrovskis’ iconic “Morning Mist, Rock Island Bend, Franklin River”, influenced a nationwide conversation about the value of protecting wild places in the early 1980s. This work also aims to document and understand how the circulation of such images in the media, influenced individuals to become active in the environmental movement or in environmental protection.
